Senate Approves Measure to Release Jeffrey Epstein Records

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday quickly approved to a measure that will force the release of investigative files associated with the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following a almost unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a shift by the president and his GOP allies. Trump's team relented after months of trying to delay the bipartisan effort involving a scandal that has followed the president since his return to the White House.

Unanimous Passage in Both Chambers

Senators proceeded by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, expediting the process. Just before, the House voted decisively for the bill on a massive majority.

The public have waited long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited long enough,” Chuck Schumer stated in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before urging the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Reveal the truth. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next heads to Trump for his signature. He indicated on the previous day that he would sign the measure.

Though the president has for an extended period rejected the uproar over the authorities' approach of the Epstein case as a “political stunt”, he voiced approval for the legislation over the past few days, and said he would approve it if it reaches his desk.

Support and Opposition

Democrats, along with victims and their advocates who were watching from a viewing area, broke into applause after the bill was enacted. The sole “no” vote came from a Louisiana Republican, who stated he was concerned the measure would disclose specific data of individuals involved, those under scrutiny and others implicated in the investigation.
